Since Marie is blogging about our visit to the Botanical Gardens today I will discuss a topic that is near and dear to my heart... food. While we haven't really ventured into the whole street food scene, we have found several restaurants with good food! Blue Sky Cafe has been our favorite because it is good, cheap and air conditioned. Jojo's is very close to our hotel also air-conditioned and had free wifi. Raj's Spanish Cafe has the coldest bottled water and good Italian food. Fresh and Juicy is also a favorite. Meals run about $2.50 and are more than we can eat so we often share meals. Here is a sample of what we have tried: vegetable pakora, veg. singapore rice noodles, aloo tomato curry, mixed veg. masala, yellow dal fry, chana masala, chana paneer, aloo gobhi, matar paneer, paneer butter masala, vegetable sizzler, nan, jeera rice, veg. biryani, katirolls, veg. hakka noodles, milk coffee, milk tea, and kingfisher beer (ice cold). We have also been able to get favorites like: brushetta, pasta with pesto, chicken sandwich (which made Marie cry the first day so she didn't eat it), marina pizza, omelets, various grilled cheese sandwiches, and porridge. Aloo is potato. Chana is chick peas. paneer is a kind of cheese like cottage cheese. The rest of the words you will have to google. We have also has lots of bananas and mangoes. Since we are not eating much meat we try to eat a protein bar or tuna fish every day. We love you all!
I really have enjoyed reading your blog so far and am learning so much about India. I admire all of you so much. Your courage and hard work is such an inspiration to the rest of us and the obvious love you have for the ladies in India is such a blessing to them. Keep up the good work. Martha Eppes
